Dalène “Rose” Koetje
April 8, 1931 – September 19, 2021
Lynden, Washington – Dalene “Pink” Alida Koetje went with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 19, 2021.
Dalene was born on April 8, 1931 to parents Nick and Winnie (Duma) DeVries in Shepherd, Montana. As a little girl, a family member bought her a very pink little outfit and called her “Pinky”, and the name stuck. When Dalene was 10, the family moved from Shepherd to the Blaine area. She attended Lynden Christian High School.
Pink married Howard “Squeak” Koetje on March 31, 1947. In 1954, they bought a dairy farm on Line Road in Lynden. At first, Pink helped with household chores and milking, and later she was known for her workers’ many delicious meals. Pink and Squeak have enjoyed family hunting and fishing trips every year.
For many years, Pink worked at Lynden Auction Barn and Everson Auction Barn. She attended the coffee break ministry at Sumas Christian Reformed Church and volunteered at the Lynden Christian Schools Mothers Club.
Pink always had her camera ready to take pictures, whether it was at a family reunion, religious and community events, sporting activities and everyday life. If she knew you, she had a picture of you. She loved to make photo albums and give them to people.
Pink was a talented seamstress, making clothes for her children and wedding and bridesmaid dresses.
Pink is survived by her children Barbara (Joe) Zylstra, Cheryl (Dale) Hendricks and Galen (Tami) Koetje; grandchildren Julie VanderVelden, Janna (Brian) Libolt, Tim (Sara) Koetje, Trisha (Kevin) Van Beek, Becky (Tyler) Bos, Tara Muggerud and Tracee Van Ry; and 28 great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her siblings Scott (Ann) DeVries, Helen (Les) Postma, Marilyn Terpstra and Norma (Jerry) Johnson; brothers-in-law Ted Vander Mey and Jerry Stenevich, and sister-in-law Joanne (Gaylon) Vander Yacht.
She is predeceased by her parents, husband of 65 Squeak, infant son John Daryl, sister Jessie Vander Mey, brother-in-law Glenn Terpstra; and in-laws Ron (Evelyn) Koetje, Neal (Leona) Koetje, Alvin (Joan) Koetje, Beverly (Martin) Sterk and Norma Stenevich.
The family would like to thank the staff at Lynden Manor and the Christian Health Care Center for their loving care over the past few years. Memorials can be made at Lynden Christian Schools, 417 Lyncs Drive, Lynden, WA 98264.
A funeral service was held at Monumenta Cemetery on Saturday, September 25, 2021, followed by a memorial service at the Reformed Christian Church in Sumas. The service was broadcast live on https://www.facebook.com/GilliesFuneralHomeAndCremationServices.
Funeral services are performed by Gillies Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
