Happy Friday neighbours! Let’s keep up to date with what’s happening locally to start today on an informed note.

First, today’s weather forecast:

Cloud and sun intervals. High: 59 Low: 45.

Here are Laurel’s top three stories today:

  1. On March 3, Lacree Thomas Ramsey of Laurel was arrested and charged with four counts of sexual solicitation of a minor. On March 9, a judge ordered that Ramsey could be released from the detention center as long as he met the conditions for electronic monitoring. (The Southern Maryland Chronicle)
  2. Lisa Schuetz, a former University of Maryland employee, has been charged in Prince George’s County with two counts of theft. According to State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy, Schuetz “abused his official position and purchasing power by engaging in a scheme to defraud the University of Maryland at College Park for an amount greater than $1 .1 million dollars”. Schuetz is charged with one count of theft over $100,000 and one count of theft between $1,500 and $250,000. His first court appearance will be on March 25. (OMCP)
  3. The descendants of Harriet Tubman, a slave-turned-abolitionist, hope to encourage Bowie State students by learning and educating others about Tubman’s courageous and historic efforts during the Harriet Tubman Day observance at the University of ‘Bowie State. A few of Tubman’s descendants, including a fourth-generation niece, Tonet Cuffee, and a fourth-generation nephew, Anthony Ross, will share stories about their family history during a panel discussion open to questions from attendees.
