BAND OF PUERTO RICO.Puerto Rico is a beautiful flag very similar to Cuba, whose origin stories follow: At the end of last century a group of Puerto Ricans living in New York decided to organize the Puerto Rico Section of the Cuban Revolutionary Party, which from the United States fostered independence Cuba and Puerto Rico’s support, then, as Cuba was under Spanish rule.Since 1849 the Cubans have their flag, created in New York by the Venezuelan General Narciso López, who was executed in Havana the following year, after a failed attempt to liberate Cuba. This flag, which since 1902 is the official Gran Antilla, is composed of five horizontal stripes, three blue and two white and a red triangle next to the flagpole, which is a white star of five points. Both the three colors of the flag, as the three corners of the triangle represent the Republican ideals of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity were first proclaimed during the French Revolution. The star represents independent Cuba. The members of the Puerto Rico Section of the Cuban Revolutionary Party, to demonstrate their fraternal feelings toward Cuba, decided at a meeting held in New York, for our country to adopt a flag similar to the Cuban. The design was exactly the same, but with inverted red and blue colors, ie blue triangle instead of red stripes and three red instead of blue.As the originators of the flag of Puerto Rico did not leave us any explanation of its symbolism, we must assume that it remained to the very meaning of the Cuban, whose triangle and three colors, as noted above, represent the Republican ideals of Liberty, Equality and Fraternity. The only difference would lie in the meaning of the star, that the flag represents Gran Antilla in Cuba and Puerto Rico for our country. In 1952 our Legislature declared the official flag of Puerto Rico to the Puerto Rican devised by the Board of New York.I trust these data have been able to help you with something.

In this assembly was chosen the flag would be the symbol of the struggle for the independence of the island from Spain. According to the minutes, the flag is the same as the Cuban, with the difference of having the colors reversed.************************************************** ***************************LOLA RODRIGUEZ DE TIO, wrote:Cuba and Puerto Rico areof the two wings of a birdreceiving flowers and bulletsin the same heart ….************************************************** *************************BEAUTIFUL YOUR QUESTION IN RESPONDING TO ME HE Ecstatic, HAD NOT ENVY, or resentment, or copying, or anything like that …. I found a fact that may help:”In 1895, during the beginning of the Cuban Revolutionary War (Martí died in exile in New York in that year), was in NY a section of the Cuban Revolutionary Party called” SPR “(Section of Puerto Rico), directed by José Julio Henna, Roberto H. Todd, John M. de Terrefort, Sotero Figueroa, and Manuel Mendez Aurlio Besosa. There was decided to adopt a new flag to replace the Grito de Lares, who was wearing the Puerto Rican at that time. (Hostos was exiled in Chile and Betances was exiled in Paris, France). It was then decided to imitate the symbol of the Cuban insurrection but inverting the colors. “The Puerto Rican flag is rectangular in shape with five (5) horizontal stripes. Three (3) red and two (2) white. Together the horn, has a blue triangle to a solitary white star in the middle. The original meaning of this flag as follows: The red stripes represent the blood shed by the patriots of the revolution. The white stripes signify the victory of peace to come. The equilateral blue triangle symbolizes the sea and the cycle of our Puerto Rico. The single star represents the island. To officially adopt the flag of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico in 1952, was awarded the following meanings: The three red stripes symbolize the lifeblood that feeds the three (3) powers of government are: Executive, Legislative and Judicial . The two white stripes represent the individual’s freedom and human rights that keep in balance the three branches of our form of government. The lone white star symbolizes the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Pearl of the Caribbean. The blue represents triágulo Republican form of government supported by the three powers—————-Cuban:”Cuba has had several flags in the course of their liberator, but that has constitutional effect and receives homage of the modern civilized world is known as the Flag of Narciso López. ”It has its genesis in 1849 and flew for the first time on the island, looking for a homeland where they settle on May 19, 1850, when hoisting the general Narciso Lopez made his landing, in noble and redemptive mission in the city of Cardenas, located in central North Atlantic coasts. ”At that time the general had in his hands having been taught that the product of his inspiration and his love of Cuban liberation cause in the course of time and sovereign tremolaría graceful to all winds and seas and soaring plying by presiding space travel of our aircraft. ”The Tricolor Flag of the Republic of Cuba came from this: The year 1849 had begun his life when brought together in a house on Warren Street in New York to Cuban immigrants who were planning an expedition to the aforementioned coastal city northern Cuba, now world famous for its beach of Varadero, Cárdenas. ”It was the former residence of poet of the Pearl of the Antilles Teurbe Miguel Toulon and at the same time where they came together the Cuban patriots. Surrounding General Narciso Lopez were well Teurbe, Cirilo Villaverde, Manuel Hernandez and several others, when discussing plans to reach the issue of the flag under whose folds were military, the general raised his voice and said: “The flag consists of three stripes blue alternating with two white, throughout all of which are of equal width, will chair a red triangle in the center and white highlighting a lone star shining five-pointed. ” Then the poet to his muse added the art of painting, that drew a flag design to be accepted by the Patriots, without thinking of devoting to the Cuban homeland who later adopted as the sacred teachings of their freedoms and of its charter. ”Not their color or shape were the product of improvisation, everything in it made sense, everything in it had meaning. The three blue stripes representing each of the three departments in which at that time was divided island, known by the names: Eastern, Central and West. The white color of the stripes alternate was the emblem of purity of intent that came from the heart and mind of all Cubans who wanted to live in a blue atmosphere of peace, serenity and freedom. The equilateral triangle, in the words of Dr. Ramiro Guerra, eminent historian of Cuba, is “the strongest geometric shape and significant than the square or rectangular” and it focuses the integrity, strength and the strength of the decisions of the liberators who but away a bit of heraldry, to give more emphasis to the symbolism painted Red, high significance of effort and sacrifice is even sym-

The Cuban flag was the original and then came the Puerto Rican was suggested that the colors were reversed because there was an association between Cuba and Puerto Rico at the time. Very good question, and even better answers, though I disagree on something of an answer, and is the macron, which says that marti dies in New York, in exile, and rectify our José Martí, DIED AT DOS RIOS against the Spanish, was an intelligent man, poet, writer and so many more, but it was a man of war, and I began to feel the envious, that he did not fight, but only with the pen, and wanted to show that was able to fight and give his life for his country, and the first battle killed. Honor to whom honor is due. And excuse me sir, for having diverted some of the questions. Greetings.

Well going to make a clarification but I advancement pavilion.Jose Marti y Perez was killed in combat at Dos Ríos, in the former Oriente Province on May 19, 1895 and not in New York as stated in another reply.

There is a saying becoming very popular in Puerto Rico, “Puerto Rico does it best” and I would have to agree when it comes to cloning, copying or just plain piracy and coruption
they are ahead in the game they lack originality thats why they copied cubas flag.
